To be perched atop a historic landmark building in Tribeca, this space was conceived as a natural, ensconcing habitat. Its distinct areas transition seamlessly between one another, with native plants and multi-species textures offering true isolation from the concrete grid of the city.

Alongside horticultural precision, the residential space requires astute attention to design and fabrication to perfectly master the balance between the stone, foliage, and wood grain elements involved. We envisioned a substantial, essential network of embedded planters to evoke the feeling of an emerging garden, organically ascending from the ground.

To support the terrace—which has a significant slope and limited load-bearing capabilities—we collaborated with a structural engineer and architect, managing permits from the Department of Buildings and the Landmarks Preservation Commission to green-light the prospective fabrication of a custom, supportive steel structure.
