Our client tasked us with reinventing a large courtyard for their growing family in Tribeca, a space that could hold both play and quiet, function and flexibility. Our design concepts for the courtyard centered on creating distinct zones without walls, using light screening for privacy and a dedicated play area where small children could roam safely.
Directly outside the apartment's glass doors, we placed a centerpiece cluster of pots, breaking the terrace into four quadrants and giving the garden a presence that carries indoors, visible and enjoyed even from within the apartment.

Given the surrounding walls and low light, our plant selection favored hardy, shade-tolerant varieties suited to the conditions of the urban environment, ensuring lush, healthy greenery throughout.

A defining feature of the space is its vine-covered pergola, enclosing the dining area in a more private, sheltered atmosphere. Custom planters anchor the pergola to the ground, securing it against uplift and movement. Given the surrounding walls and low light, our plant selection favored hardy, shade-tolerant varieties suited to the conditions of the urban environment, ensuring lush, healthy greenery throughout.
